Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From
Scrap
BOOK 1
by David Gingery
BOOK
1 includes plans and instructions for building a simple home foundry from
common materials. Aluminum and pot metal are the materials to cast. Being
cheap and abundant, and melting at a relatively low temperature, they
are ideal materials for developing skills in molding and casting.
Charcoal is available everywhere. It burns hot and clean, and there is
not the danger of explosion that is present with gas fired furnaces. The
furnace is cheap and easy to build. It operates without pulsation or roar,
and its operation is non-technical. The entire foundry operation can be
stored in an area of just a few square feet of floor space.
Basic pattern making and moulding procedures and how to find substitutes
for commercial materials which are not easily available to individuals
in small lots are explained.
Paperback. 72 pages.
